Service/Therapy Dogs

Updated: Apr 27, 2021

Service and Therapy dogs provide a necessary and amazing act of assistance to those people they are attached to. There is no formal training required presently to list your dog as a Service Dog, however they must be able to have standard obedience. The AKC provides a Canine Good Citizen test and title for basic command following. Dogs need to have a good temperament so when looking for a puppy to provide one of these services being able to see the parents and seeing what type of temperament they have can be very important. Beau is my service dog as I have diabetes. The intuitive nature that he has to determine my medical issues is incredible. This was not trained he showed this ability on his own. He then was trained to expand on this unique ability. Labrador Retrievers are one of the most popular breeds used for any type of dog related service to people They have been the most popular registered dog thru the AKC for the past 27 years. Proving that whether they are providing a service or just love for their family, Labradors are Americas choice.
